Congratulations to former student James Nixon, who left us in 2008 to pursue his dream of becoming a jockey. As we are sure many of you will know, James won the 6.20 at the Aintree Grand National Festival on Saturday, on Havana Beat. Growing up in Aintree, James has always had a fascination with the Grand National and first sat on a horse during a holiday in France at the age of seven or eight. When James first told his friends that he wanted to be a jockey, many of them did not take him seriously but he was determined to follow his dream. He is now enjoying competing as a professional jockey and had this to say when we contacted him, “If my story helps students to do what they want in life and makes them realise it’s not about what people think about them, that’s great. It’s about what you put your mind to.” We couldn’t agree more James. Well done and good luck in your continuing career.
