Maghull High School is proud of its ethos and standing within the community. Our talented and committed staff are dedicated to enabling each pupil to reach his or her full potential and to become mature and responsible citizens. We have a vibrant extra-curricular life not only through our specialist status as a Performing Arts College but also through our extensive sports programme and cultural experiences.


We are delighted to have now formally joined the Southport Learning Trust in November 2020.  Maghull High school are looking forward to working in partnership across the Trust to help to further improve the life chances of all students and achieve excellent outcomes for the children of Maghull High School.

School Book Fair 2014

During the week w/c. 10th November, we will be holding a School Scholastic Book Fair at Maghull High School in the LRC/Library area. We will be inviting all the pupils to come along either at break, lunchtimes or after school to view and purchase books and other merchandise such as posters and stationery.

For a limited time, you can purchase vouchers online at a discount rate and save £££s!

  • A £10 voucher now costs only £9, a £15 voucher only £13, a £20 voucher only £17 and a £25 voucher only £21.
  • Even better, your school will earn Scholastic Rewards for free books on the full value of the voucher, rather than the discount price.
  • Once a purchase has been made, you will receive the voucher in an email which can be printed and given to your child – much safer to carry than cash!
  • Vouchers can be purchased up until midnight on the last day of the Book Fair. Please speak to your school to confirm the Book Fair dates.
  • If you child would be interested in purchasing any of these items then you can purchase vouchers at @ www.bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/parents.

We would appreciate your support with the event, as a group of pupils will be running the book fair as a `Business Enterprise’ and have a goal of reaching £800 in sales. Charlie Higson Author Reward Event 2014

The Charlie Higson Author Event in the Atkinson at Southport on Monday 15th September 2014 was an amazing event for Year 7 Pupils from Maghull High.


The pupils had been offered the chance to qualify for the Author Event earlier in the month by “Reading and Quizzing” on books from the school library under the school’s literacy package “Accelerated Reader Scheme”.


90 pupils qualified and we took them via coach from school on the morning to the Atkinson, Lord Street, Southport.


The event included other High Schools from the area such as Range High, Holy Family, etc.


The students had a meet and greet session with Charlie Higson and he talked about his writing for TV, Radio and Books and what inspired him to write for pleasure.


The pupils had the opportunity to purchase books from Broadhurst Book Shop, of his Zombie Series “The Enemy” and he signed and greeted each pupil individually! 


Pupils took pictures and enjoyed asking questions of the author.  A great day was had by all and the pupils who attended were impeccably polite and well behaved and a credit to Maghull High.

Sefton Super Reads 2014 - Trip & Event.

The Ceremony took place on Thursday 12th June 2014 at the Atkinson in Southport. We took all of our pupils along who had read and written reviews for the books nominated for the event (8 in total);

    • Bethany Barlow (Year 8)
    • Macy Evers (Year 9)
    • Toria Hatton (Year 9)
    • Dylan Horton (Year 9)
    • Lemmy Campbell (Year 9)

A summary of the event will appear later on the Sefton Libraries’ website, Facebook and Twitter pages in due course.

Book Nominees - Reviews

As in previous years the reviews could be hand written, typed on blank paper or into the pro-forma provided. Plain or coloured paper, were also acceptable. Illustrations could be included but the judging was on the quality of the written response to the book.

Members of the Senior Library Management Team had then judged the reviews.

On the day of the awards - The reviews were displayed in the Atkinson Library or Arts Studio, grouped by title.

Awards & Certificates

A prize was awarded to the pupils judged to have written the best review, for each book – (6 prizes in all).

I am pleased to say that two of our pupils; Alicia Oldfield and Erin Craine (Year 7) both won in this category and received a prize (£5 book token) for their amazing written reviews to the books.

The pupils were a credit to the school on the day and enjoyed a tour of the new refurbished Atkinson Art Gallery and Library. We are so looking forward to participating in next years Sefton Super Reads already!

British Open 2014

Mr Couttie organised a trip for a group of students to attend the British Open 2014 at Royal Liverpool Hoylake on Tuesday 15th July. 

Students enjoyed golf lessons, putting competitions and watching the worlds best golfers up close.
