Emma is a winner in Sefton writing competition
Year 10 pupil, Emma Brown, entered her poem “The Drawer”, in the competition ‘Sefton Celebrates Writing.’ A few weeks ago she received an e-mail inviting her and her English Teacher, Mrs Tramantano, to the awards evening. They suspected at that point that she might have received an award, but couldn’t be sure. The event was held at the Clifton Hotel in Southport – the room was full and the presenter was David Lonsdale of ‘Heartbeat.’ Firstly the runners-up were announced – and Emma’s name was called out!
Emma received a cheque, a certificate and was invited to read her poem which she did, wonderfully – though Mrs Tramantano did notice her hands were slightly shaking! Whose wouldn’t in front of all those people?
During the evening, all the winners read out their work and were entertained by a professional rasta Liverpudlian rap poet too!
Hopefully, more pupils will enter the competition next year – but in the meantime – WELL DONE EMMA! WE’RE PROUD OF YOU!

The Prime Minister, David Cameron hosted a reception at Downing Street to celebrate excellence in education and Mark Anderson, Headteacher from Maghull High was honoured to be invited to attend.“It was a wonderful surprise to receive the invitation in recognition of the success which our school enjoyed as Outstanding School Team in the 2010 National Teaching Awards. It was great to meet both the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education but the highlight for me was
stepping inside Number 10 itself through that famous front door. It was a shame that our outstanding Performing Arts Faculty who actually won the award were not invited, nevertheless I was proud to be able to fly the flag on behalf of our staff and students.”
UK and regional winners from 2011and 2010 were invited to the reception hosted by the Prime Minister on Wednesday 2 November. Prime Minister, David Cameron said, "It's incredibly encouraging to know that over 22,000 teachers from across the UK are thought of so highly by their pupils, colleagues and local community that they were nominated for a Teaching Award. This is a testament to the thousands of hard-working and inspirational teachers there are in the country and everyone who was nominated should be proud of the impact they have clearly had on the lives of the children they teach"I would especially like to congratulate the winners who I met in Downing Street. I heard some amazing stories of the passion these teachers bring to the classroom and their drive not just to teach but to make a real difference in their schools. Each one of them should be proud of this achievement."
