Headteacher’s Welcome

Maghull High School is proud of its ethos and standing within the community. Our talented and committed staff are dedicated to enabling each pupil to reach his or her full potential and to become mature and responsible citizens. We have a vibrant extra-curricular life not only through our specialist status as a Performing Arts College but also through our extensive sports programme and cultural experiences.

We have a long standing and supportive partnership with the Southport Learning Trust and will have completed the formal transfer to join their Multi Academy Trust on 1 November 2020.  Joining the Trust will help to further improve the life chances of all students we teach and achieve excellent outcomes for the children of Maghull High School.

Presentation Evening Celebration

Thursday, 13 September saw the final awards presentation evening in the old building of Maghull High School before the school takes possession of the new build in April 2019.  The theatre sparkled and blossomed with the lighting and flowers, kindly loaned to the school by Lady Green Nursery.  Solo cellist Nieve Mannion played beautifully and the audience enjoyed a performance by the school’s gifted and talented dance company.

The prizes were awarded by the mayor of Maghull, Councillor Carragher, and our special guest, BBC Newsround presenter Hayley Hassall.  Hayley gave a passionate talk reminding students that they could achieve whatever they wanted through hard work and perseverance.  Hayley explained how she overcame a stammer as a child and now works as an ambassador for the children's speech, language and communication charity, I Can (ican.org.uk), which offers expert resources so children can be diagnosed and given help at an early stage.

Hayley is now an award winning investigative journalist from Blackpool and presents programs across BBC1, BBC2 and CBBC. Most recently, she reported for current affairs programme Tonight on ITV, Christmas City on BBC1, The Winter Olympics documentary for BBC2 and is the anchor on BBC children's news programme, Newsround. Hayley also reports for BBC Sport, BBC Breakfast and The One Show, after many years working as an undercover reporter for Panorama.

The evening’s proceedings came to a close with an entertaining vote of thanks from the school’s Head Boy Sonny Garside and Head Girl Asye Ozcan.  We are so proud of everything our prize winners have achieved -  a truly memorable evening  for us all.

Maghull High Success

Maghull High School were extremely proud when two of their year eight pupils recently scooped first and second prize in the Melling Parish Council Litter Prevention poster competition.  The judges were very impressed by the entries, both in the creativity and compassion demonstrated by the pupils, so much so that it was rather a challenge to reach a final decision.  Lucy Standing won first prize and Grace Pink secured second.  The winning design will be used later this year as part of Melling’s anti-litter campaign and will be seen around the village and on social media.  Councillor Alison Doyle presented certificates and prizes to the girls on the last day of term.
