16-19 Tuition Fund Statement 2021-22
The 16 to 19 tuition fund was first provided for the 2020 to 2021 academic year and is being extended by the DfE beyond 2021 to 2022 for a further two years into the 2023 to 2024 academic year. This funding is specifically targeted to address the potential attainment gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 16 to 19 tuition fund is ring-fenced to help support learners aged 16-19 who have yet to achieve a grade 4 in GCSE English and/or mathematics. The 16-19 tuition fund is allocated to a school, in addition to the main school funding.
Maghull High School has a robust system to enable bespoke intervention and support for those students who fall within this category. Each student will have a plan for their intervention following an assessment, and this will be recorded using school systems and costed according to need and the requirement for specialist/additional staffing and resources.
We are committed to accelerating progress and moving students towards their expected progress based on their starting points by:
- allocating resources to support any student who has not achieved their grade 4 in GCSE English and/or mathematics
- ensuring that learners who fall into this category receive extra tuition above and beyond their normal programme of study
- providing high quality small group tuition with specialist staff (between 3-5 per group in the majority of cases)
- prioritising learners for extra tuition to ensure that those who need extra support most, receive it first
