Maghull High School is committed to providing careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) for all students in years 7 to 13 in partnership with independent and impartial professional careers advisers. We believe that CEIAG should:
- Inspire young people about their future prospects
- Help them to make progress and achieve
- Meet their career development needs
- Enable them to make realistic and well informed career decisions and transitions
All staff contribute to CEIAG delivery through their roles as tutors, subject teachers and support staff. Specialist careers education sessions are delivered by form tutors through the PD programme. The CEIAG programme is planned, monitored and evaluated by CEIAG Leader Marie Bennett and careers coordinator and work-related learning lead, Susie Wallis.
Key Stage 3
Careers education information and guidance (CEIAG) is delivered through modules included in the tutorial system and as part of the curriculum across all curriculum areas. Students also have opportunities from year 7 onwards to visit local businesses and industries and listen to presentations from business visitors, as well as attend workshops connected to different careers.
Key Stage 4
Students receive CEIAG through modules included in the tutorial system and as part of the curriculum across all academy areas. Students also have opportunities to visit local businesses and industries and listen to presentations from business visitors, as well as taking part in our annual network breakfasts. From year 11 onwards have a 1:1 interview with an impartial careers advisor.
Sixth Form
CEIAG is an ongoing process throughout a student’s two years in sixth form. Students are fully informed about the benefit of university and are encouraged to attend open days. Students have access to a range of university visits and are regularly presented to by university representatives. Once they make the decision to submit an application students are helped throughout the UCAS process and have one-to-one personal statement support.
During the final few weeks of the summer term year 12 students undertake work experience, with the aim of further improving their personal statement content. Students who express an interest in apprenticeships receive one-to-one support throughout the application. They also have the opportunity to attend a Careers Fair, where companies from around Merseyside offer information and guidance regarding the apprenticeships they offer.
