Summer School 2021
Summer School 2021
Maghull High School provided two weeks of summer school this year. The first week took place at the start of the summer break and the second week in early August. Over 680 summer school days were accessed, predominantly by students from our new year seven cohort and a small number of students from other year groups. Some students attended for their full five-day entitlement whilst others attended a number of days to suit them.
Students experienced a blend of enrichment and academic activities, covering maths, English, science, art, drama and music. Our own teachers staffed academic activities while other enrichment activities were delivered by specialist practitioners. Additionally, students were given the opportunity to take part in a water sports or orienteering trip, developing their teamwork and communication skills, as well as increasing their cultural capital. Catering was supplied by Atalian Servest, our own contractor and support staff provided pastoral and learning support.

Funding was allocated to the following areas:
Staffing: £20,120
Resources: £6,813
Outside Practitioners: £16,350
Catering: £3,120
Parents and carers were asked to complete an evaluation at the end of summer school. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Parents agreed that their child had enjoyed summer school, had been able to make new friends and that communication about summer school was clear. It is already evident just several weeks into the new term, that students who attended summer school have had a benefit in terms of their transition into year seven. They are more confident within their new surroundings and had already started to develop a relationship of trust with a good number of staff prior to their official start.
We look forward to being able to provide a summer school experience for next year’s transition cohort.
